The euchre tournament held over the weekend October 21-22, certainly equaled, if not exceeded the expectations of the organisers, with 112 players on the Saturday, and 116 fronting up for competition on the Sunday.  Saturday resulted in Margaret Charlton winning 14 of the 18 games played, one game clear of six players on 13 games won. Sunday saw the competition still running very close, but Gay Rodgers (Southport RSL), with 23 games won out of the 29 played, held sway over Heather McLeod (Central Coast) on 22 games and ex Yamba member, Phil Denny, now residing in Wynnum, on 21 games. The aggregate prize for the best combined score over the two days also went to Gay Rodgers with 34 games, three games clear of Emma Kelly, who in turn was one game ahead of four players. The euchre club members express their gratitude to our major sponsors, the Yamba Bowling Club, and the Special Events division of the Clarence Valley Council, for their ongoing support of this event. Survey forms supplied by the council, and filled out by the participants, revealed a number of the players staying in and around Yamba for up to a week. Home addresses were as far flung as Bundaberg to the north, Tasmania to the south, and out west to Moree and Tamworth. The effort by Craig and his catering staff at lunch on Sunday did not go unnoticed, and was appreciated by all in attendance. God willing we can do all this again next October 27-28, 2018.
