Encourage Shield golf win to Northern Rivers squad

The NRDGA Encourage Shield team have won the State final of the competition conducted last week over two days at Newcastle Golf Club. The members of the NRDGA team are: Jackson Magarry (Lismore); Kayne Endean (Maclean); Nick Magarry (Lismore); Callen Stubbs (CTH); Jayme Walters (Kyogle) and Reilly Wunderlich (Yamba). In the first match against the Wagga Wagga Golf Club, the teams finished three matches all. Consequently, the No. 1 players from each team (NRDGA player Jackson Magarry) played the 19th hole which Jackson won with a regulation par. In the final match to decide the NSW State Encourage Shield winner, the NRDGA team was drawn to face the Shelly Beach Golf Club from the Central Coast of NSW. After the regulation 18 holes, NRDGA and Shelly Beach GC had won two matches each. The final two matches (NRDGA players Jackson Magarry and Reilly Wunderlich) were all square after the 18th. This was a marvellous effort from both boys as they were both 1 down standing on the 18th tee. Reilly won his match on the first extra hole leaving the score at NRDGA – 3, Shelly Beach – 2. Jackson Magarry then had a par on his second extra hole to leave the final score at NRDGA – 4, Shelly Beach GC – 2 and as a result, NRDGA were crowned the NSW Encourage Shield State Champions. Well done to all the players and also to Ethan Walker (Coraki) who filled in for Jackson when he was injured in one of the earlier rounds.
