The Tuesday September 21 game at Maclean GC, an Ambrose event, was time for players to work together, doubling up on best shots which created all sorts of opportunities for some couples.
Our newer players had to wrap their heads around the concept, so we tried to partner them with more experienced golfers. However, that planning was just a band-aid and to no avail for the pairs that stayed with regular partners. They had fun but were no match for our winners who torched the course with red hot scores. We made it a Stroke Ambrose event and wow, what a surprise it was to see how well some teams performed.
In first place the team of Kim Pye and Denise Patten (combined handicap deduction 25) scored a nett 23 strokes for 9-holes, each claiming a tasty bottle of wine and chocolates.
Coming in close behind were inseparable Marilyn and John Hopkins (comb handicap deduction of 19) nett 24 taking home wine and box of chocolates.
Finally, steaming home in third place were Bruce Johnston and Gary Taylor (combined handicap deduction of 10) claiming the box of chocolates and the home-made box of ‘Hopkins’ chocolate brownies.
Six packs of “free range” golf balls welcomed new players and were given as encouragement awards to stragglers who were in descending order: Sonia Bonaccorsi & Clem Rhoden 27, Rod Dee & Trevor Wright 29, Colleen & Garry Stockwell 30, Shane & Shenia Mitchell 32.5 and Julie Campbell & Allan Downtown making 36.25
