Last Friday the Iluka CWA (Country Women’s Association) announced the awardees who had entered its poster competition. Each year the CWA nominates a country of study for its members – this year the focus is Nepal. The Iluka branch has for many years organised a poster competition for students at the Iluka Public School. Students do an in-depth study of the country: its geography, parliament, industry, culture and history. The posters are then placed on display in the Iluka Museum/CWA rooms, judged by neutral judges and a presentation of awards is given at an afternoon tea. Guest speaker Sue Fry, who lived in Nepal for some time, spoke about her experiences in the country. A group of students also prepared and performed a traditional Nepalese dance, appropriately named ‘The Happy Dance’.
