Although there were howling winds and drenching rain each night, 20 ‘Almost Back to Basic’ campers were up and about early each morning enjoying the day’s activities at our Minnie Water camp which included swimming in the pool/beach, sitting around the pool/camp site reading a good book, playing board/card games, checking out the scenery/camp sites or just catching up with friends.
On Thursday afternoon there was a very serious competition game of boule happening. Pam defeated Maureen to become ‘Minnie Water Camp Boule’ champion, while Lorraine got closest to the jack.
On Wednesday and Thursday evenings we gathered at the camp kitchen where we enjoyed happy hour, nibbles and a BBQ dinner.
Our next will be at Cangai on Saturday April 27-28, coming home on Monday or stay a few more days. Your choice!
The committee is hoping to offer a ‘Beginners Pottery’ group once workshop space and access to a kiln have been arranged. There is also a lot of interest in another ‘Current Affairs’ group if anyone is willing to facilitate it. So if you like a healthy discussion and debate once a week, now is your chance to lead this group. There’s also a possibility of a weekly walking group in Yamba and this is currently being investigated.
The first ‘Gardening’ group meeting of the year on Friday February 22 attracted 70 members and visitors, six from Caroona with two carers and three gardeners from Glenugie who plan to join CRU3A plus bumper crops of cuttings and plants for the trading and raffle tables.
To celebrate three years of CRU3A croquet, 34 members enjoyed a splendid lunch at the Marina cafe on Friday February 22. A Pennant competition between the five Clarence Valley clubs will start in April with four home and four away games. This is CRU3A’s fastest growing group with a reputation for having “competitive fun” and they were certainly having fun at the Marina Café judging by the conversation and laughter.
