A series of 2 concerts at the Criterion is aiming to help the Lismore Conservatorium with their fundraising for flood victims. Called RESOUND, this project has been set up to help replace musical instruments lost by students and teachers in the recent catastrophic floods.
The Soireés will feature ensembles and soloists from the Clarence Valley Conservatorium in a cabaret setting at the Criterion. It is hoped that people from the Clarence Valley community will welcome this opportunity to relax and enjoy some live music and entertainment while at the same time supporting other communities in the Creative Arts field.
The 1st concert, a Sunday Soireé, features the ensemble “Strings and Things” under the direction of Sarah Nicholls. This ensemble plays a lovely blend of popular and folk music with a Classical twist. For this event, they will also include a selection of songs from the Conservatorium Choir and the solo debut in the Valley of the Choir director, Jill Carter. New to CVCON this year, Jill studied singing in the Hunter Valley and has worked with Queensland Opera and the Hunter Valley Conservatorium.
High Tea will be served during this concert, although patrons are welcome to bring their own alcohol and nibbles as is the custom at the Criterion. Starting time is 2pm, but doors open an hour early to allow people to meet up over a cuppa before showtime.
The 2nd concert, Friday Night Jazz, features the Conservatorium Jazz Band, with some solo appearances from some of the Valley’s well-known vocalists. This event is also cabaret style and BYO, and there will even be space for dancing, reminiscent of the days when the Criterion was a Dance Hall famous for its Friday night dances.
Fund-raising raffles will be a big feature at both concerts, so patrons are urged to bring their spare change for a good cause.
