CRDWBA District State Triples Championships
Clarence River District State Triples Championships were played week at Iluka Bowling Club, with 36 teams from six clubs competing.The semi finals and final were played on Thursday, June 7 with brilliant bowling from both teams in the first semi final between the Grafton District Services team of Jo Pugh, Annette Williams and Bev Murray and the South Grafton team of Pam Lollback, Heather Nichols and Candy Nixon. Bev lead 9/8 on the 11th end with each end going bowl for bowl with the score 12/12 on the 16th and still equal on the final end with a nail biting extra end played to decide the match. Candy’s team were the winners 14/13.
What a great match.The second semi final was between the two Iluka teams of Michelle Swan, Lyn Millard, Ros Duncan and Erica Karstens, Shirley MacNeil, Margaret Caldwell, with Erica’s beginning well to lead 12/3 on the 7th end. Michelle’s team fought back to reach 18/9 on the 14th end but they could not bridge the gap, with the final score 22/13.
The final was played after lunch with Erica’s team leading 9/3 on the 8th end. Candy’s team found their rhythm with excellent lead bowls from Pam, and some great conversions from Heather and Candy to take the score to 10/10 on the 12th end and 15/12 on the 16th end, with the final score 19/12 in Candy’s favour.Congratulations to the South Grafton team whose next game will be in the Regional play offs in the Northern Rivers District at a venue to be announced.
