Coutts Crossing Croquet AGM on Sunday
Frank Mack started a bright week by grabbing the silver teaspoon with 25 metre hoop. Joy Campbell followed up with three jump shots, two in one game. Yvonne Gillett was back from cold and wet Melbourne: had three wins and finished with a miserable loss. May Ford has lost her mojo, a third day in a row without a win. She had company. Also in the ‘no win’ category were Gillian Martin, Pat MacLennan, Shirley Tees and Robyn Walters.
Brian Hewitt was back and won all his games as did Phyl Harrison.
On Wednesday Peter Deeth again equalled his life-time best with a 9 hoop AC turn. Again Peter Martin hunted him down with a 6 hoop turn to lead at the buzzer 21-18. But Peter Deeth was not done and hit a thrilling 4 hoops to win 22-21. Gillian Martin continued her good form after injury with a 11-9 win over Sue Deeth.
There were two outstanding efforts on Thursday. Marilyn Wilson had five straight victories and Joy Campbell four. Narelle Wright had two wins and two very narrow losses. There were four hoop to hoop shots with the silver teaspoon going from Yvonne Gillett to Phyl Harrison to Royce Wilson to Tony Williams.
Our next Pennants match is home to powerhouse South West Rocks, but five of our top team will be on holiday so the reserves will need to step up.
Saturday saw Phyl Harrison romping along with 4 big wins and jump shots for Robyn Walters, a ripper, and David Norris.
Sunday saw Peter and Gillian Martin paired against Sue Deeth, (rec 1). Six and seven hoop turns gave the Martins a 26-8 win. Simon Cook, with a new mallet head beat Peter Deeth 15-11.
Members are reminded that the AGM is this Sunday August 12 during the members’ Open Day.
