Country horses set for Royal Randwick

Country horses, trainers and owners have a direct line to Royal Randwick thanks to Racing NSW and the 2022 Newhaven Park Country Championships which will see the best county horses showcased on the big stage at Day 1 of the Championships.

Minister for Racing Kevin Anderson said the Country Championships will see eight races, each held in a different part of the state with the horse finishing first and second in each race qualifying for the final.

“Thoroughbred racing is such an important part of life for many people living in regional communities whether that be for a day out with friends and family or if you are one of the 14,000 people who are employed by the industry,” Mr Anderson said.

“I commend Racing NSW for the work that they continue to do engaging with regional horses, with events like the Country Championships and the Kosciuszko being very well received by country trainers.

“The Country Championships have been operating since 2015 and I congratulate everyone involved in this significant event for keeping it going. The Country Champs gives back to those regional people who dedicate their lives to racing and I look forward to seeing the best in country racing on Day 1 of The Championships at Royal Randwick on April 2.”
