Community Meeting at Chatsworth Island re ANZAC 2017

The Chatsworth Island / Iluka sub-branch of the RSL will host a community meeting at the Chatsworth Island war memorial on Saturday, August 20 to commence at 10.30am to discuss arrangements for the 2017 Dawn Service and Commemoration activities. The sub/branch would like to be able to form a sub-committee of local interested residents to organise and conduct the commemoration arrangements. The sub/branch membership has been in a slow decline due sadly to natural attrition, and the logistics of running commemoration events at both Iluka and Chatsworth is now beyond them. The idea of a local Chatsworth ANZAC sub-committee under the umbrella of the RSL would ensure insurance coverage and the availability to apply for grants from Veteran Affairs for such commemorative activities and any work which may be required on the memorial itself. The Island along with Ashby and the surrounding district paid a very high price, particularly in World War 1 and the sub/branch feels it is important to continue on from 2015 and 2016 when a Dawn Service was conducted at Chatsworth, and well supported by local residents. In the event of inclement weather, the meeting will be moved to Chatsworth Island School. For further information please phone Roger Jones on 6645 2710 or just turn up on the day and have your say.
