After an absence of 11 years of hanging on our honour wall, “That Painting, circa 1977”, has finally landed back in Grafton. Our ladies are absolutely thrilled to have finally wrestled back “That Painting” from the Coffs Harbour Lady Golfers following the 2016 Annual Inter Club Challenge which was held at Grafton last Friday. With conditions on the day being very warm for autumn, we were delighted to welcome 23 golfing friends from Coffs Harbour to participate in the 4BBB event which saw a huge field of 87 starters. The Grafton players really annihilated the Coffs side with some fantastic scores posted on the day. Grafton took the win with an average of 34.76 points to Coffs Harbour’s 29 points. We were pleased to welcome to our presentation, our generous sponsor for the day, Peter Gibbons of the Bank of Queensland, where he presented the trophies to the day’s winners. The overall best score and winners on the day, were the combination of Julie White and Narelle Butcher who returned a fabulous 45 points. The scores came thick and fast for this pair with their scorecard showing only three or two pointers for the 18 holes. Narelle and Julie combined well and recorded an even number of scores on the card, with Julie the one to receive the loss of handicap. Thanks were extended to the sponsors and also to the winners’ very supportive Coffs Harbour playing partners, Roz and Kirsty. Marilyn Powell is certainly on the comeback trail and making great use of that new driver. With partner Lyn Dahl, both players had a great round to take 2nd place with 44pts. Gillian McLachlan and Val Franey placed 3rd on 43pts followed by Betty Allen, who pops into the Grafton course from time to time, and partner Doreen Mulvey of Coffs Harbour with 42pts for 4th place. Coffs Harbour’s Lady Captain, Wendy Johnstone recorded a wonderful eagle on the par five 11th hole and was presented with an eagle badge. Last Wednesday’s event was also a 4BBB Stableford incorporating the WGNSW Bowl competition. Gail Knell and Robyn Wilkes were the kind sponsors of the day which accommodated 70 starters. June Cavanagh and Helen Packwood came in as the winners on 43pts where they happily received the lovely prizes from Gail and Robyn. Fay Shields and Janet Croft took 2nd place with 42pts followed by Mary Atkins and Sonya Baker in 3rd place on 40pts. Our sponsors Robyn and Gail managed to take out 4th place with 39pts c/b. Saturday’s 18-hole 4BBB Stableford competition also incorporated the WGNSW Bowl event with a field of 18 starters participating. Janet Croft, continuing with her good form for the week, and Peg James were the best combination on the day to take the win with a lovely 42pts. Monday of this week saw the commencement of our 2016 WGNR Pennant season. The Grade 1 team, which comprised Peg James, Heather Purtill, Sue Petty, Heather Robinson and was led by Dell Burke as captain, travelled to Iluka for their round one match against Ballina. The Grade 2 team, which comprised Mary Atkins, Millie Harris, Robyn Wilkes, Helen Packwood and was led by Julie White as captain, travelled to Casino for their match against Iluka. Julie White
