Clarence Valley youth groups secure grants

Youth groups in Grafton and Iluka have secured grants courtesy of a new $1 million program from the NSW Government.

Member for Clarence Chris Gulaptis said the Grafton Guide Hall will be upgraded as part of the program, benefiting from $55,000 for new shade awnings and a storage space for canoes.

Iluka Scout Hall will receive close to $5000 worth of safety upgrades including the installation of wired in fire alarms, a security locking system and an audit to assess for asbestos.

Mr Gulaptis said Girl Guides offer young girls aged between five and 17 fun, friendship and adventure and the grants will help empower them with safe facilities to grow and develop leadership skills while contributing to the community.

Helen White, Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT Chief Executive Officer said the funding would make a big difference.

“Good facilities are fundamental to both indoor and outdoor guiding and the funding will allow us to continue offering quality activities, adventures and dynamic educational programs as we transition back to safe, in-person activities,” Ms White said.
