Clarence Valley Roller Derby League

cvi story & pics by Lynne Mowbray   The Clarence Valley Roller Derby League held an event at the Raymond Laurie Sports Centre on Saturday, which attracted competitors from as far away as the Gold Coast, Port Macquarie, Armidale, Lismore and Coffs Harbour. Event organiser Tanya Fisher said that the event was to attract girls from other leagues to come together. “The theme for Saturday’s event was 50’s Hot Rods v 70’s Muscle Cars,” said Ms Fisher. “Our local girls were mixed in with the visiting competitors to make up the two teams.” It was an action packed afternoon of thrills, spills and fun. The Hot Rod weekend inspired a 50s hot rods versus 70s muscle cars theme, with the Cherry Coupes taking on the Black Betties, with the Black Betties claiming a hard fought victory in the final, 182 to 167.
