The AGM is scheduled for Tuesday August 27 at TDCC, 10am to 12pm. Information which includes a form for nomination for positions on the committee has been posted.

There are still places for ‘A Little Bit of Culture’s’ trip to QPAC on Saturday October 5 to see the matinee performance of ‘Muriel’s Wedding’. At ‘Croquet’ a busy week with 22 players on Tuesday and long hoop to hoops for Sue and Francis and jumps shots to Carmen and Patty (a first time player). Thirty-three players enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Marina cafe after play. A good crowd again on Friday, we tried a new format with all teams playing to five, a quick way of getting through a lot of games with multiple partners. A loyalty card, play and pay five days, the sixth is free. Join us at Yamba Sports Field next to Raymond Laurie Centre, on Tuesday or Friday, 9am. All equipment provided, cost $5. On Thursday six players went to Coutts Crossing for the Pennant presentation and barbeque, congratulations to winners, Iluka, and thanks to Coutts Crossing for organising and hosting the day.

‘The Iluka Art’ group had two pastel tutorials from a local artist Jenny Johns whose works can be seen at Jenny’s studio in Charles St Iluka. Instruction included how to sketch small still life, how to create a harmonious composition, being aware of light and shade. On the technical side she showed samples of different paper and their effects for the planning of an art work, to achieve the desired outcome and a range of pastel brands, how to collate, classify and arrange them to know exactly what is needed and with careful documentation, be able to return to the ones required for a partly finished painting. She discussed fixatives and their uses and limitations. She covered an enormous scope of pastel knowledge of methods, materials and skills whilst giving individual tuition to complete our own works in this demanding medium. A talented and generous teacher inspired us all to attempt new creations.
