Clarence River U3A

Last Wednesday twenty walkers assembled in Iluka for the traditional opening walk of the season from Shark Bay to the Sedgers Reef hotel with Col and Annie Hennessey in the lead.

The weather was quite warm but we were in the shade of the rainforest by 11am so all in all it was quite pleasant with a sea breeze at our back. It was good to be able to have a swim at the halfway mark. The first bus took walkers to the Shark Bay entrance proper and the second one dropped walkers at the entrance to Woody Head. The two groups met conveniently at the camping ground. On the walk itself we were able to notice some significant historical features from the old quarries at the first and second bluff which were very interesting.  A convenient water stop was available at Bluff beach before the final leg through the forest before a nice lunch at the hotel there.

Please note that the next walk will be on Thursday March 21 on Woodford Island. More details later.

‘A Little Bit of Culture’ members have started the year with a bang. With two outings in February having been enjoyed, we now look forward to March.

The ‘Photography’ group will recommence on Wednesday February 27 from 5pm to 7pm at Treelands, the theme is still-life. We now have 21 members which will challenge us if we are to critique everyone’s pictures. Reluctantly we must close the group to new members at this stage.

We have 24 going to the combined VIEW Clubs International Women’s Day luncheon on March 8 and our mystery tour on Wednesday March 20 is also booked out.

We head off to Grafton for two outings in April. The first is to the Criterion for Oliver the Musical and the second is Menopause the Musical on the 26th. Oliver the Musical is booked out; however, there are nine seats available for Menopause the Musical.

Our outing in May is to QPAC in Brisbane for the matinee performance of Book of Mormon on Saturday May 18. I have seven seats available for this much-acclaimed show.

If you would like to join us for Menopause the Musical or Book of Mormon, please email me (Patricia) at apkan1@gmail.com or phone 0407 475 254.

All U3A women are invited to our free ‘Women’s Health Forum’ on March 5 at Treelands Drive Community Centre from 9am until 12.30pm during NSW Women’s Week.

Given the interest in this forum, we ask that those who already recorded an expression of interest at enrolment day confirm their place by registering on the U3A website or by contacting Anne Dinham at dinhams@aapt.net.au

Enquiries are welcome, but as we are nearly over subscribed, seats are not guaranteed.

Bring a non–member along for a gold coin donation.

Members, when you receive your ‘Clarion’ newsletter, you will notice that two new groups have been formed: A beginner’s ‘Ukelele’ group and a ‘Gilbert and Sullivan’ group.

Contact details for both groups are in the newsletter.
