Clarence River District State Pairs finals

The Clarence River District State Open Pairs Championships and Senior Pairs Championship have been played over the last ten days at Yamba WBC with 92 players vying for honours. Thursday April 21 saw the final of the Senior State Pairs played between the South Grafton team of Enid McKew with Margaret Andrew and the Grafton District Services team of Annette Williams with Bev Murray. The game began with a fairly even start with South Grafton leading 15/9 on the 12th end where the consistent lead bowls from Enid and excellent bowling from Margaret saw them take the game 24/10. The State Open Pairs final was played on Tuesday April 26 also at Yamba WBC between Maclean’s Cheryl Johnston and Coral Shannon against Grafton District Services Jo Pugh and Dawn Lawson. Grafton got off to a head start with consistent bowling from both ladies to lead 10/0 on the 7th end when Cheryl and Coral began to challenge the Grafton team with excellent bowls being played by both teams, but Maclean were unable to bridge the gap going down to Grafton 17/14. Congratulations to both the winning teams who will now play off on August 22-25 in the Northern Rivers District at a venue to be announced. Shirley Woodward
