Angourie surfer Dakoda Walters has won the 16-and-Under Boys division at the 2017 Billabong Oz Grom Cup at Park Beach, Coffs Harbour. Wooli surfer Carly Shanahan, who is a member of Coffs Harbour Boardriders Club, won the 14-and-Under Girls division. Dakoda Walters’ brother, Harley, was fourth in the 12-and-Under Boys division. Dakoda Walters was the standout competitor of the event, during which he posted a perfect 10 score for a tube ride on the penultimate day. He continued his solid form in the final, posting a 9.7 to take out the highly contested division. Walters defeated Taj Watson (Coffs Harbour, NSW), Zac MacMahon (Evans Head, NSW) and Joel Buxton (Buff Point, NSW). Shanahan nailed an eclectic mix of manoeuvres on her way to victory over Ellia Smith (Coolum, Qld), Jasmine McCorquodale (Bateau Bay, NSW) and Charli Hurst (Port Kembla, NSW). Harley Walters was fourth behind Nate Hopkins (Norah Head, NSW), Lennix Smith (Barrack Heights, NSW) and Ty Richardson (Palm Beach, Qld).
