Clarence and Richmond Valley encouraged to lower their power bills

Clarence and Richmond Valley households should take advantage of a suite of NSW Government initiatives to cut their power bills, according to Clarence Nationals MP, Chris Gulaptis. “The Government is well aware of and taking action to reduce the financial stress of electricity bills, especially on low income households and especially in these colder months,” Mr Gulaptis said. The latest initiative is that the helpful people at Service NSW, which has offices in Casino and Grafton or can be contacted on 13 77 88, will help you find a better deal on your power bill. “There is also a range of rebates. Eligible residents on fixed incomes can claim a $285 a year Low Income Household Rebate. “If you do not qualify for that rebate but receive the Family Tax Rebate, you can apply for the Family Energy Rebate of $180 a year.” Mr Gulaptis said there were also some great programs to help people use less power and therefore pay less. “These include discounted energy efficient lighting for households and an appliance replacement offer which could save you 40 per cent on a new fridge and 50 per cent on a new television,” Mr Gulaptis said. “These offers are also available to eligible small businesses.” For information about how to claim, visit www.energyaffordability.nsw.gov.au
