China and Indonesia
Ed,
I see that Indonesia’s President has appointed an ethnic Chinese to one of the most powerful positions in the Republic – the Governor of Jakarta.
As a onetime Indonesia watcher I would suggest that that appointment is a direct result of China’s military expansion into the South China Sea.
China would not have forgotten the hundreds of thousands of ethnic Chinese slaughtered by the Indonesian armed forces in 1964 and neither would a nervous Indonesia.
