Yamba Bowling has recently completed a refurbishment of its Boardwalk Bar, which aims to replicate an “upper class, hotel lobby feel”, says the club’s manager Phil Boughton.
The room’s new lounge-like, chill out ambience is a multipurpose function centre that caters for the “gaps in the services we supply”.
“It’s a pre dinner/post dinner drinks chill out area where people can come and have a quite drink, socialise with friends, have a share platter and then go and have a meal,” Mr Boughton said.
“At the end of their meal they can drop back and have a coffee – an Irish coffee if they wish – and a chocolate fondue, to finish their night off.”
The venue has also come back to life as a live performance area – Tex Perkins recently played at the room and commented on how much he enjoyed playing there.
Regular Friday night performances have been reintroduced.
The room comfortably accommodates about 85 people.
When asked what would happen if a larger crowd turned up to see whoever was performing, Mr Boughton said: “That would be a nice problem to have; if we get a 100 people in, we’ll deal with that when it comes.”
A new surround sound system and electronic blinds – along the glass wall that makes up the east and northern sides of the room – have been installed.
Mr Boughton raised one of the blinds with the press of a button.
“That is adjacent to 18th hole of mini golf course,” he said.
“Mums and dads can sit down while little Johnny is out playing golf; when he passes the window they’ll know he is about to finish.”
Construction of a single lane bowling alley and a mini golf course is due to commence in July and be completed just before Christmas.
There’s a big screen for sporting events (and five smaller screens), which can also be used for functions and audio visual presentations.
As well as the new espresso coffee machine, there is a section of the bar dedicated to wine.
“We’ve sourced wines from best areas in New Zealand and Australia, culminating in our top shelf Penfolds range,” Mr Boughton said.
