Changed traffic conditions on Gwydir Highway west of Grafton

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions from this week on the Gwydir Highway for maintenance work around 65 kilometres west of Grafton at Cangai Bluff.

Work will involve slope stabilisation work to reduce the risk of rock falls at this location.

Work will be carried out from Monday June 24 until the end of August 2019 between 7am and 4.30pm on weekdays, weather permitting.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane, with an alternate flow for the duration of the work, and a three-metre width restriction in place.

The width restriction, which will be in place 24 hours a day, is due to the placement of 810 millimetre high concrete barriers.

Vehicle combinations exceeding three metres in width (with a ground clearance greater than 810 millimetres) may be eligible to travel via permit, subject to consideration.

Also starting Monday, essential road repairs will be carried out about 97 kilometres west of Grafton.

The work will involve removing the existing road surface and placing new asphalt will take place between 7am and 5pm from Monday June 24 to Friday June 29, weather permitting.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane, with alternate traffic flow and a reduced speed limit in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
