Change of program for Grafton women golfers

It is lovely to see so many of our women members back after COVID-19 restrictions being lifted to groups of four.

Due to our increase in player numbers, we are asking that groups are to keep pace. If you are falling behind, please, call the following groups through. It has been noted that there has been some slow play, due to the small fields with the COVID-19 restrictions, so the Match Committee would appreciate asking this of you. Groups are to leave the green from the side and not by the front, which can hold up play of approach shots.

Players were notified last week that the golf programme was back as per our schedule of events, but there seems to be some that are querying changes and not reading our programme book or looking at the on-line booking headings.

Last Wednesday an 18-hole Stableford was played which incorporated Round 1 of the Grafton Mall Butchery Aggregate. A field of 55 contested the South Grafton News and Gifts 18-hole event.

It was evident that due to the lovely day good scores were recorded. Overall winner of the South Grafton News and Gifts Stableford was Kaye Murdoch with a fine 38pts. This is a warm-up for Kaye leading into the Club Championships, commencing June 12.

Div 1 (0 to 24) winner was Noeline Smith with 36 from Mary Atkins 35 and third place Peg James 33 on countback.

Div 2 (25 to 30) saw Julie Bennett take out the winning position with a great round of 37from Sue Byrnes on 36 and third June Newsome 32.  A little birdie has told the scribe that a certain woman in Div 2 hit her drive on the 14th, landing it very hard onto a rock, needless to say it came flying backwards at a fast pace landing it over the fence “out of bounds” back level with her tee off shot. Oh, dear Rob, you could have thrown it further… lots of laughter was had.

Div 3 (31 to 54) was taken out by Liz Smith with 34pts from Gail Knell 30 on a c/c from third winner Jan Hamilton also on 30 on a c/b. Welcome back to the winning circle Liz and Jan after your COVID-19 break.

Ball winners went to 30 points or better.

NTP draw of cards for the Holiday Coast Meats, MJO Legal, Clarence Valley Tyres, Dougherty Property sponsored holes.

A field of 26 players teed off in Friday’s 18-hole Stableford and again saw some fantastic scores, even though it was quite nippy for our early starters.

Div 1 (0 to 25) winner was the ever-consistent Kaye Murdoch with 40 points (chop/chop); r/up was Mary Atkins on 33 (this is Mary’s second r/up in two rounds).

Div 2 (26 to 54) Brenda Cooper had a lovely round of 36pts; r/up saw Margaret Ross with 35.

NTP draw of cards for the Ann and Peter Gibbons and Grafton Coffee Club sponsored holes were Jean Milne, 6th, and Cheryl Creighton 10th.

Ball winners went to those on 31 or better.

The Grafton Mall Butchery Aggregate winner was Kaye Murdoch with a fine 78pts.

Saturday saw 28 women play a two person Ambrose, sponsored by LV Hair. A great morning for our first team event with much laughter that could be heard coming from the 17th after all four Div 1 players had consecutive mishaps trying to reach the pin.

The stars of the day and winners were Janeen Roberts and her young partner, Hollie Fuller, with a brilliant score of 62.75 nett, what an outstanding game these two played, having 69 hits; runners-up were another young pair of Maddie McKee and Hannah Blundell with a score of 67.25 nett. These girls are loving their golf each week.

You needed 71.75 net or better to win a golf ball.

The draw for the NTP went to Jan Davis and Sonya Baker.

Monday results saw a great field of 32 players.

Div 1 winner was Meredith Corrigan with 20pts and Sue Roberts was awarded the r/up spot with 18 on a c/b.

Division 2 saw Lisa Hunt with a fantastic score of 24pts and r/up Sue Tozer had 21 and won this spot on a c/b.

On Monday we played an 18-hole Stroke incorporating a Toast Espresso sponsored monthly medal round.

Latest update: There is a programme change so forward to May 27 an 18-hole Stroke – monthly medal, Captain’s Trophy will be played, and our sponsor will again be Toast Espresso.

Changes to Divisions will occur, due to the new handicap system:

Div 1 (0 to 24); Div (2 – 25 to 30); Div 3 (31 to 54).

Saturday May 30 will be an 18-hole Stroke – monthly medal, Captain’s Trophy and Toast Espresso again will sponsor. All Saturday players must play in groups of women members only and hit off the 10th tee to be eligible.

Golf NSW have reintroduced the women’s medal competition, NSW Bowl and Goodwill Plate events.

We will be playing the NSW Bowl on Wednesday June 10 and it will be a 4BBB Stableford.
