Iluka Women’s Bowls Club ran its first 2020 Club Championship final on Thursday August 6.
Due to COVID-19 isolation guidelines, IWBC only resumed play in mid- June and the Major Singles competition commenced on Tuesday July 28. Eleven ladies nominated for this competition and was played over four days.
The two semi-final games were played on Tuesday August 4 and these games were extremely close with a final score of 25-21 in each game.
Kaylene Toovey was victorious over Anne Rawson and Marianne Jenner prevailed against Kim Mogler. Congratulations must be extended to all players who entered the championship.
In the final on August 6, Kaylene made an excellent start to be 14-7, however Marianne made a determined fight back and made some excellent shots to move Kaylene’s bowl from the jack.
Marianne came within five shots, however in an exciting stage of the game both players continued to steal the shot on their final bowl and the game had many extremely tight heads.
It was however Kaylene who held her nerve to remain calm and consistent as she maintained concentration to be the ultimate winner with an increased healthy margin. Congratulations to Kaylene Toovey who becomes our worthy Major Singles Champion for 2020.
The next Club Championship to be played will be the Pairs, commencing on Thursday August 13. The Fours and then Triples championships will follow.
In other news, IWBC recently held its AGM for 2020 and welcomed a new committee under the guidance of President Ann Mc Causland. At this meeting, a special presentation of Life Membership was made to popular and much-loved member Kathleen Sullivan.
