CanDo Cancer Trust Grafton Rottnest Swim

The 5th Annual CanDo Grafton Rottnest Swim was held at the Grafton Lifestyle centre on Sunday March 26.

Nine teams took to the water to swim 30-minute time slots to achieve the equivalent length of the Rottnest Channel, 19.7km or 788 laps of the 25 metre pool. All participants received a CanDo swim shirt and an official Rottnest Swim cap.

Masonicare had donated $3000 to this magnificent event with the Freemasons from Prince Leopold Lodge organising lap counting on the day. Over $6000 was raised to assist Grafton patients who are struggling financially whilst receiving cancer treatment.

CanDo has contributed over $100,000 to the Grafton community by paying household bills, fuel, food and other essentials to cancer patients having to travel to Coffs Harbour to attend the North Coast Cancer Institute.

St Mary’s Primary School, St Joseph’s, GDSC Swim Club, Girl Guides, Waverunners from the swim club and the Grafton Triathlon Club all entered teams to compete for a trophy and the chance to assist local patients.  Many local businesses sponsored the teams, and we thank Westlawn Finance, Julie Hoddard Cleaning Services, Bloomers Transport, Blanchards Transport, Walsh Demolitions, S & D Welch, The Village Green, Henson Sawmilling and the GDSC for their generosity.

CanDo has been operating for 13 years and is a registered charity helping patients within 24 hours of an application being received by the social workers at the Cancer Institute. If you would like to know more or donate, go to www.candocancertrust.com.au or our FB page CanDo Cancer Trust.
