Books…books…books – we have thousands for sale

Rotary Club of Maclean are gearing up and sorting books to get ready for their next Giant Book Sale, scheduled for Friday August 17 and Saturday August 18 at Maclean Bowling Club. There is the usual flood of fiction books, with all best seller authors represented. Each sale sees a different batch of books of common interests and favourite authors and this sale we have a considerable number of craft books on cake decorating which will be available in our hobbies section Also in our hobbies selection you will find a wide variety of ethnic cooking books and in particular this time are several on Hungarian cuisine and even one on Scottish. There are an unusually large number of biographies, largely sporting heroes and a number of politicians some which include details of the behind the scenes plotting that have resulted in recent political changes. For the history buffs, there are plenty of reference publication relation to warfare and, the development and descriptions of weapons and warfare from earliest times. Children’s books will continue to be free to children (with mum, dad or grandparents asked for a donation). A shopping bag full of books is now $8, still a bargain considering the quality of variety of books available. We will have a small amount of shopping bags available however, we request that you bring your own shopping bag to reduce the use of “single-use plastic bags”. Proceeds from the sale will go towards various Maclean Rotary community projects. We are also running a project to send school books and equipment to schools in the Ramu Valley in the Madang district of Papua New Guinea. Distribution of this material is being managed by former Maclean Rotarian, Peter Dibella, who has recently moved from the Harwood Sugar Mill to take up an appointment with Ramu Sugar. Details of the sale are: When: Friday 17th August 9am to 6pm AND Saturday 18th August 9am to 12noon Where: Maclean Bowling Club – restaurant dining room – entry via the Club’s main front door. Price: $8 to fill a shopping bag. Please BYO shopping bag if possible. Proceeds shared between Clarence Valley Regional Library Services and local Rotary community projects. Karen L Cooper
