Maclean author Paul MacNamara has revealed his surprise, delight, and shock, upon learning his debut novel The Criminal Class, a memoir of his transition from an everyday teacher to an education officer in the prison system, has been nominated for the Small Publishers Book of the Year title at the 2023 Australian Book Industry Awards.

Described by several readers online as riveting, intriguing, and humorous, eye-opening, and unputdownable, The Criminal Class has attracted a wide and appreciative audience since its release in 2022.

“You cross your fingers and hope people will like it, but it is very humbling to be selected (for the award), and flattering that readers are really enjoying reading it,” Mr MacNamara said.
