Better swim numbers last week

Increased numbers created a more competitive evening for Grafton Swim Club members last week.

Yvonne Shorrock was welcomed back after quite some time away, but she was still in shape as she managed to qualify for two finals.

Kicking off after all heats had been run was the 50m final and making their way to the blocks were Doug Ensbey, Jill Enks, Damien O’Mahony and Terry Marsh. Jill was first away on handicap and was followed at intervals by Doug, then Terry and then Damo. As the race neared its finish it was thought that Jill had it in the bag however Doug and Damien put up a last-minute challenge.

Doug was first to touch only to learn that he had broken his time by nearly three seconds. Damien was the next one home and swimming just .18 off his nominated time was awarded the win with Jill taking second place and Terry third.

The finalists in the 30m freestyle were Steve (birthday boy) Donnelly, Yvonne Shorrock, Damien O’Mahony and Toni Ensbey. Steve proved to be just too slick for everyone in this race, taking the win by just a whisker from Yvonne with Damien filling third place.

David Moon, Yvonne Shorrock, Natalie Durrington and Terry Marsh were the finalists in the 30m B B & B.

Yvonne proved to be just a little faster than the rest in this event, taking the win from a fast-finishing David.

Natalie, still troubled by injury, did well to score third place.
