Avenue Road detour kicks in next week for Woolgoolga to Ballina Upgrade

Roads and Maritime Services is reminding motorists of changed traffic conditions on the Pacific Highway and nearby roads this week for work to progress on the Woolgoolga to Ballina upgrade. From Monday 17 July, motorists travelling on Avenue Road at Glenugie will be detoured via Old Six Mile Lane or Wants Lane for about a month while Avenue Road is widened to two lanes from the Eight Mile Lane intersection to north of Wants Lane. Full access to Wants Lane and Old Six Mile Lane will be maintained during the detour. Work is continuing north of Sheehys Lane at south Tyndale as part of the new interchange for the upgrade at this location. Traffic control will be in place to allow heavy vehicles to safely turn on and off the highway. Southbound motorists can expect short delays near the intersection of Garretts Lane at Woombah for vegetation removal on Wednesday 19 July and line marking of the highway near the site of the disused service station at Harwood will be carried out on Thursday 20 July. Traffic control will be in place on the highway for line marking between Woodburn and Broadwater between 6am and 6pm north of Broadwater on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 July. Utility relocation work continues this week about two kilometres south of the intersection of The Gap Road and Tuckombil Road and Wondawee Way and at the Gap Road intersection with the highway at Woodburn between 7am and 6pm on Wednesday 19 July. Road resurfacing work will be carried out between the Pimlico Road intersection with the highway and Emigrant Creek Bridge at Pimlico from 6am to 6pm on Thursday 20 July. For the safety of workers and motorists, reduced speed limits and traffic control may be in place on the highway and local roads and access roads, where haulage along the project route is taking place or deliveries to the project site are required. Delays of up to five minutes can be expected at most locations and all work is carried out weather permitting. Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control. Roads and Maritime thanks the community for its patience while work on the upgrade is carried out.
