Australia Day: Maclean unites to take a stand against Domestic Violence

This Australia Day, Maclean Bowling Club and Rotary Club of Maclean are joining forces to take a stand against domestic and family violence.

The community is invited to a barefoot bowls fundraiser at the Club on Sunday, January 26 from 3pm, to raise awareness and support those affected by domestic violence. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Lower Clarence Domestic Violence Committee.

Domestic violence knows no boundaries and affects people of all ages and backgrounds. Breaking the silence is a crucial step toward change. Maclean Bowling Club has been committed to this cause for many years now and partnered with the Rotary Club of Maclean’s “Say NO to family and domestic violence in our community” campaign last October. As part of their ongoing efforts, Club staff and directors wear Purple Shirts every Friday to raise awareness and promote respectful relationships. Purple Friday is a Rotary initiative that highlights family and domestic violence.

The afternoon will feature something for everyone, including:

  • 🎶 Live entertainment by Tim Stokes
  • 🎳 Barefoot bowls ($5 entry)
  • 🌭 Sausage sizzle (gold coin donation)
  • 🎁 Raffle with fantastic prizes
  • 🎨 Free kids’ activity from 3pm–5pm, hosted by The Party Girl World Yamba
  • 💜 Wear Purple and show your support

Tim Stokes will entertain with his mix of classics, including Paul Kelly’s “Dumb Things” and Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” His music brings generations together and promises to keep the crowd entertained throughout the event.

Join Rotary Club of Maclean and Maclean Bowling Club on Australia Day and help raise funds and awareness of domestic violence in the Lower Clarence community.
