Yamba’s Art Space has been running Youth Workshops every Thursday throughout the holiday season, with the last holiday workshop being held on January 25.
The workshops which have been running for preschoolers 10 – 11am, Primary 12.30 – 2.30 pm and Secondary 3.30 – 5.30pm each Thursday, have proved to be very popular.
Yamba Art Space owner Kerrie Howland said that the workshops have been concentrating on fabric art; printing, painting and dying techniques.
“Those attending the workshop can bring along a cotton clothing item or pillow case to work on or we can provide 100 per-cent calico fabric, which they can make a bag or something out of,” said Kerrie.
“Last week’s class was word art where the artists chose a word and created an art work based on that word.
“Some used dowel sticks to create dot patterns on their art work and others used stencils or painted freehand with brushes to create their special art project.”
Kerrie conducts different workshop programs for students during school terms which include printmaking, clay and this term will be drawing.
Kerrie said that she works as an art facilitator and travels to the schools to conduct her workshops. She also works with the Grafton Regional Gallery.
“Art Space is a share space where I can work in with other facilitators, wishing to hold workshops,” she said.
