Another great regatta

cvi   Saving the best for last, Big River Annual Sailing Regatta was a beauty! Over 50 sports boats, catamarans, skiffs and monohulls gathered at Harwood over the weekend. These regattas are getting a reputation for great sailing, fun folks, and great food, some sailors came from as far as Lake Macquarie, Tamworth, and Brisbane. It is the last major event for the club this season as we head to winter recess after Easter. The long passage race on Saturday from Harwood to Iluka, was a very balmy breeze assisted by an out tide, conditions that had everyone under control, no capsizes or breakages, and easy day out for the rescue boat crews. That was turned on its head on Sunday as the afternoon sea breeze built to a steady 15 knots for the two short course races in the club racing area. The tight racing in wavy waters had everyone on their game, and the inevitable swim for a few. A lot of happy sailors after a fabulous weekend, especially the division winners: Sports boats – Jim and Joe O’Keeffe; Yachts/trailerables – Steve Stocker and crew; Skiffs – Barry and Daniel Bradford; Cats – Phil Homan; Nacra 4.5’s – Dave Bowler; Monos – Graham Hams; OK Dinghy – Mark Skelton; Laser 4.7 & Junior – Ollie Arthur-Andrews.
