Proving that reading can be fun

At the October meeting of the Lions Club members were visited by representatives of the “Story Dogs Program” which provides weekly 20 minute one on one reading sessions with a dog and handler (Dog Team) to create a safe space outside of the classroom for children to read at their own pace.

Children are chosen by the classroom teachers who work closely with the Dog Team. When children read to a dog the outcomes are amazing, they have fun, are not judged, their focus improves, their reading skills increase and importantly their confidence soars.

Grafton Lions Club were impressed with the presentation and have taken on a new project by sponsoring a Dog Team already providing the program to Coutts Crossing Primary School.
