Justin Henwood does it again A great field of 185 played in the midweek Stableford at Yamba Golf & Country Club on Thursday and some spectacular scoring was recorded in all grades. Justin Henwood continued his run of good form to win B Grade with the day’s best score of 43 points. Rex Bolte was runner up with 41 and David Grant third on a countback with 40 points. In A Grade, Robert Gallagher was the winner with 41 points. Brent Raverty (Wynnum) and Richard Beresford each scored 39 points to take the rest of the vouchers. James Ford was successful in C Grade with a great round of 42 points to win from Geoff Butler (41) and Doug Brown 38. NTP winners were: Fitted Golf 3rd Craig Morton (Coolangatta) 99cm. Peter Campbell Physio 9th Jake Paterson (Hole in One), SeaFire 10th Gary Brigginshaw (Caboolture) 45cm, Yamba Barber Shop 12th Bryan Dwyer 64cm and Yamba Golf Simulators 17th Andrew Melvelle (Charlestown) 253cm. Fitted Golf Pro Pin winner were 0-14 John Ashby 440cm and 15-54 Peter Brennan 213cm. 35 with 13 on the back nine won balls in the rundown. Lachlan Hancock is Ray White Yamba Open Champion Two even par rounds of 71 saw Lachlan Hancock from Maryborough win the Ray White Yamba Open Championship by a single shot from Sam Adams (Coolangatta Tweed). 250 golfers took part in the three-day Open Tournament, which was played over November 3-5, with golfers from as far south as Tasmania and north to Townsville competed in the Open. The Friday event was a two person Ambrose competition which was played in ideal conditions. Winning scores were very low with the day being used as preparation for the two-day championship played from the very back markers. Leader after 18 holes was Colin Miskell (Coffs Harbour) with a fine round of one under par 70. Lachlan Hancock was a shot in arrears. Rain fell overnight on Saturday and showers persisted early in the day. Playing very early was Sam Adams (Coolangatta Tweed), who was the defending champion. He returned the lowest score of the tournament with a two under par 69. Hitting off in the afternoon, Lachlan Hancock played almost the entire round in rainy conditions. His even par round of 71 saw him take the championship by the narrowest of margins from the 2022 Open Champion, Sam Adams. Local golfers did well over the weekend. Rick Addinsall and Geoff Flett were runners up in their respective grades. Kane Dickson was the B Grade nett winner and Ben Ralston won the C Grade nett event. In the daily events, Tony McFarlane, Luke Hitchings, Kane Dickson and Kevin Lowe. The Yamba Open was hugely successful due to the enormous input of so many people to whom the thanks of the club are extended. The course itself, was in magnificent condition due to the efforts of Mark Ryan and his team. Visiting golfers were fulsome in their praise of our great course and town.
