Growing up in South Grafton, Amelia McLachlan, 20, loves living in a regional community and describes the Clarence Valley as a vibrant place where people come together to help and support one another, elevate and reward empathy, vulnerability, and kindness.
“It is a place created for us to meet and connect, and a place that brings a sense of belonging and connections for us to enjoy the little things in life,” she said.
As a 2024 Jacaranda candidate, Ms McLachlan is excited to meet new people and discover what goes on behind the scenes in the lead up to and during the Grafton Jacaranda Festival and nominated because she wanted to give something back to the community which has inspired her through the years.
“I want to encourage others and build stronger relationships with the community and guests, and experience something new and exciting,” she said.
Some of Ms McLachlan’s favourite memories from attending previous Grafton Jacaranda Festivals include seeing the vibrant hues of the Jacaranda trees and hearing the joyful laughter of children.
Her favourite event is the Jacaranda Float Procession and watching people come together while expressing their creativity.
Ms McLachlan said being a Jacaranda candidate during the 90th Grafton Jacaranda Festival enables her to help bring in the future whilst upholding traditions from the past.
Should she receive the honour of being crowned during the Westlawn Jacaranda Royal Party Crowning Ceremony on October 26, Ms McLachlan said she will choose the title of Queen.
Ms McLachlan is an early childhood educator and is proudly sponsored by the New School of Arts Early Learning and Oosh Centre.
