2024 inaugural Maclean inter high school public speaking competition

On Thursday, November 14 Maclean HS and Pacific Valley CS competed for ‘The Garry Whale’ Maclean inter high school public speaking championship trophy at an event hosted by the Maclean Rotary Club and held at the Maclean HS library.

Speakers from two separate divisions years seven and eight and years nine, ten and eleven represented both Maclean HS and Pacific Valley CS.

All students presented themselves well and spoke beautifully giving the adjudicators Ms Lorrie Brown, Ms Judith Little and Mr Anthony Brown a very difficult time determining the divisional winners Lucy Smith representing Maclean HS was awarded the junior division prize and Henry Kirkman from Pacific Valley CS was awarded the senior division prize.

In a very close decision Maclean HS was declared the winner of ‘The Gary Whale’ Maclean inter high school public speaking championship trophy for 2024.

The Maclean library was transformed into a magnificent fine dining venue with mocktails on arrival together with a magnificent meal prepared by the year 11 hospitality students and teachers ensuring that the 72 guests and students in attendance enjoyed an unforgettable night.

Maclean Rotary Club are proud to have partnered with Maclean HS and Pacific Valley CH for this event and we extend a very special thanks to the teachers and students for this very special event together.

Next year‘s event will be hosted by Pacific Valley CS, and we look forward to this in anticipation.
