1st Grade men’s hockey is back

Friday night saw the much-anticipated return of Grafton Hockey Association men’s 1st Grade competition.

Most clubs are using this season to rebuild, with first grade teams looking to support up and coming juniors, as well as get some of the more experienced players back on the pitch. With only 3rd Grade fielding teams in the COVID impacted 2020 season, there were a few cobwebs to blow off for many returning players.

In the opening match of the evening, Royals Clocktower played City Bears Village Green in a low scoring game. Young gun Harry Watts scored an equalizer seconds from full time for the game to finish in a 1-1 draw. In the other match, Barbs Hagars (2) drew with Jetty Jets (2). The season is certainly starting with tight games and it will be interesting to see which team finds their form and fitness to take the lead early in this competition.
